04/13/2005 Archived Entry: "It's So EEE-ZEEE!!!"
I'm giving my Pilot pen a run for its money this month. At long last I'm drawing some bigger pieces.
It's so easy to get intimidated by other artist's work, but then I kind of have to do a mental "fuck you!" and keep on working at my own so-called style. I think the best description for my style is... Capirotada.
Capirotada is a Mexican dessert and damn is it tasty. In any case, it's a lot of things that you wouldn't normally think to throw together to form this big blob of pudding that I'd kill to eat right now.
It's like when I was growin' up and in high school, a lot of people would go to school wearing the latest fashions and that would be their "style". And there I was wearing flannel or tie-dye shirts and torn jeans and I rarely ever brushed my hair. And my saying was "It's clean, that's all that matters." Hell, sometimes even if it wasn't 100% clean, my buddies and I would wear shirts that we had slept in the night before.
-That- is the kind of shit I draw. Yeah, you see the cute stuff a lot, but I can't help that!! I was a child of the 80's, for chrissakes! The guys had Transformers, I had My Little Pony, okay!? I remember this one time in grade school, where my schoolmate and I were trying to fit Baby Glory into Optimus Prime's truck for quick transport on some adventure. I think we resolved that there should be Transformers with horse trailers...
