11/23/2004 Archived Entry: "Almost Wednesday"
Tomorrow's going to be like a Friday, on account of Thanksgiving here in the US of A. That means I get a four-day weekend. Woohoo!! I'll probably spend some of it removing wallpaper from the bathroom and then painting on more sealant on the underlying drywall. I'd like to personally thank the people who worked in creating water-based, tintable sealant paint. This stuff works miracles and it's insanely easy to clean up after. Hell, I'm the living testimony that it's idiot-proof! LoL!
In iRO News...
So last night I finished up my second entry for the monster card contest. I've done one for the Cookie and the Kapha so far. The Kapha one came out really cute. John likes the way I did the one for the Cookie. Who knows what I'm up against, though, there are some killer fan artists out there. My second attempt will be for the Karakasa, it's an umbrella monster. *pause*

Traditional everyday umbrella, made of wood and oiled paper. (lit. 'dry umbrella')
Yes, it's a wax paper umbrella with one wooden sandal for a foot, one googly eye, fangs, and a long tongue. I want a pet Karakasa. LoL! They're such weird monsters and it would be nice to have a sapient umbrella around with you. Hey, it worked for Mary Poppins! LoL! What'd be funny is the potential capturing items, which would probably be a wooden sandal. And teh food would probably be wax paper or bamboo. Ha ha!!

One of the most famous types of tsukumogami is the kasa obake, or umbrella ghost. Like other tsukumogami, it is a youkai which gained life from longtime use. Usually kasa obake are portrayed having one leg and then a foot wearing a single geta, or wooden sandal, where the handle was. They usually also have one eye and a mouth with its tongue sticking out in a silly expression.
Kasa obake are tricksters and love to try and frighten people, but they also love to play. They will happily play with anyone, and especially with anyone who has a childlike outlook. Kasa obake love to fly around on rainy days.
Apparently, the karakasa iRO design is exactly like how everyone else designs them. I'm looking at a Googled images search and they all seem to have the long tongue, too! I wonder why that is. LoL! And apparently they're popular charms for cellphone straps. Oh, man! Now I want one!
