09/23/2004 Archived Entry: "Up to my armpits in leeches!! :O"

Boy, what a busy day today! I suppose that's a good thing, though, that means today will go by a little faster. (I hope.) I didn't go to work yesterday on account of being ill-prepared for killer cramps from hell. Argh! Being female really sucks sometimes.

I'm swamped with stuff to do here at work today, that's a good thing all in all. That means I'll be too busy getting stuff taken care of to sit and mope. I don't mind tedious work, so long as I don't have to keep still throughout the whole thing. The nice thing about working in the print room is I get to move around instead of sitting and staring at a monitor for hours on end all day long. Having a little bit of both is nice, I don't like the fact that most days I sit and do nothing but push buttons and slide the mouse around. I don't like being a cubicle zombie.

There are two new OSAM comics up on my gallery, if you want to read them. John thought they were pretty funny. OSAM is the comic I do when I feel a need for humor before I go postal. It hasn't been as violent as it used to be, but that's probably because when we (Claudia and I) used to first draw notebooks filled with it we were angry, horny teenagers. It's still full of expletives, but expletives only -increase- as you mature because there's more things to bitch about. LoL!

Regarding my Sister's List...
I bet the list from the other day is confusing the hell out of people! HA HA! It's a list of all the weird shit I used to do when I was too little to realise it was weird shit. Every little kid does a whole mess of weird, impulsive things. My sister is seven years older than me, so she got to witness all the weird shit I did. Learning to accept that you're weird is learning that all humans are weird to begin with.

"Erika wore an Elf costume when she was little for almost an entire summer. She was one of Santa's elves for a Christmas play the year before and I guess she really liked the outfit."

I remember this costume. I remember this one thing... It was a Christmas play where all the smaller kids of my daycare were dressed in itchy felt and white tights and made to play Santa's elves. What possesses adults to dress their little spawns of Satan like little elves is beyond me. (I'm going to dress my babies as more true to life things - like a skunk or a virus. LoL!) Okay, yeah it was cute. *sigh* But anyway, I remember this one thing... I saw another little kid start crying out of stage fright and his mother came and took him away! Hey, wow, all you have to do is cry and you won't have to stand here tapping at this wooden peg with a stupid little hammer? So I started crying, too, and got to get out of the entire play! Excellent! I have a series of bad experiences revolving around Christmas time, it wasn't until recently that I started liking Christmas now that I can -control- what happens during Christmas myself. My sister can vouch for the "bad things at Christmas", too.

But ANYWAY, what's funny about that costume is what happened later. There was a hurricane, I think it was Hurricane Gilbert I don't remember, and the next morning when it was all over there were two horses in the lot next to us! Two horses that were stranded there and stayed there because it was the only safe place with lots of grass to eat, I guess. But my mom and my dad filled large plastic buckets and trashcans with water for the horses and something possessed my little, ADD-child head to go out and play with the horses IN MY ELF COSTUME! I've got the photograph, I've got it scanned somewhere. I'll have to post it as proof that elves exist. It's like something you send to Brian Froud. LoL!

I think anyone who remembers their childhood is prime bait for psychiatrists. They'd have a field day just with my memories alone.

In Other News...
Perler beads. Karma got me into perler beads. Damn, I haven't played with perler beads since I was still in grade school. But people are starting to/have been make a fad out of using old NES game sprites and making perler bead fanart with it! That sounded like too much fun and I've got an absolute -ton- of bitmaps that I made myself from the old Sweetwater site. So this should prove extremely fun now that I've ordered a very large bucket of six-thousand beads for ten bucks yesterday off Ebay. Yes... six-thousand perler beads complete with some peg boards to work on. All you need is your brain and an iron.

This is your brain.
This is your brain and an iron.
Any questions?
Yes! Where do I plug them in?

I found websites that do all sorts of fun, creative things with perler beads on my own, too. So now I've got a bunch of ideas floating in my head about what to do with my masses of beads once I get them. I haven't done any craft related things in ages, save for making the plushy. I'm still working on those, too, but that's slow going. I'll be attempting to make the hats this weekend.

P.S. You MUST read this comic!
